Request for Temporary outreach Project Proposals: Livermore Cultural Arts Vision
The Opportunity:
The City of Livermore Cultural Arts Vision seeks socially engaged community art outreach projects exploring how public art and programs can enhance the City over the coming five to ten years. The project's goal will be to reach community members who live, work, and play in Livermore in diverse settings and activities rather than expecting them to attend public meetings. Ideal projects will include placement in multiple locations and engage a broad cross-section of the Livermore community. Additionally, the project will need to involve hard-to-reach populations such as young people, seniors, and workers. Artists will ask community members to think about the role artists can play in shaping the future of Livermore’s civic and cultural arts. Artists may propose collaborations or residencies in local organizations or companies to develop their projects or propose activities that will actively engage the public.
Eligible projects should take place over two months from September 7 through November 19, 2021 (to be determined with the City)* to produce a group of ideas that may be incorporated into the Livermore Cultural Arts Vision.
Background:
In early 2021, the City of Livermore began updating the art vision for the coming decade. The City’s 2007 ArtsAlive plan resulted in the creation of a downtown arts district, art in public places program, and the construction of the Bankhead Theatre. Livermore’s arts efforts are led by the Livermore Commission for the Arts, under the Office of Innovation and Economic Development direction.
The current planning process explores where arts and cultural services are needed. The planning process is researching the following questions: What programming or installations contribute to civic pride, placemaking, and economic development? Where should the City invest in the arts? How can the City encourage local art production and outside professional artists? What are potential ways the arts can be funded? How can programming and collaboration happen within the Tri-Valley and Northern California?
The planning process includes conventional interviews, focus groups, and surveys. In addition, the planning team, Art Builds Community, is seeking broader community engagement through artist-led popup events that will reach people where they gather, during community events, and in public places.
Scope of Work:
6-8 socially engaged community art outreach projects/pop-ups, to be determined with the City*
Budget: $8000.00
The budget for this project is $8000, including time, materials, fees, and travel
