CULTURAL ARTS MASTER PLAN

Livermore is a regional desitination for the arts with a flourishing cultural ecosystem that encourages participation and inspires diverse thought, conversation, and connection.
Client: City of Livermore
In early 2021, the City of Livermore began updating arts vision for the coming decade. The City’s 2007 ArtsAlive plan resulted in the creation of a downtown arts district, an art in public places program, and the construction of the Bankhead Theatre. Livermore’s arts efforts are led by its Arts and Culture Commission, under the direction of the Office of Innovation and Economic Development.
The planning process explored where arts and cultural services are needed; what kinds of programming or installations contribute to civic pride, placemaking, and/or economic development; where the City should invest arts efforts; how to encourage local arts production and outside professional artists; and potential for arts funding, programming and collaboration within the Tri-Valley and Northern California.
Art Builds Community worked with Livermore Poet Laureate Cynthia Patton to facilitate art engaged activities during the community engagement pop-up tour across 6-8 events. Participants were invited to write a heart-based poem about their hopes and dreams for the arts in Livermore and were then guided to transform their lines of poetry into paper beads where they can take home and wear as a necklace or bracelet.
