City of Newark

PUBLIC ART MASTER PLAN | 2023 - ONGOING

Illustration by artist VE of Newark, CA

The City of Newark is located in Southern Alameda County at the east end of the Dumbarton Bridge, just 30 miles south of Oakland and 15 miles north of San Jose. This suburban city has a small town feel and is home to diverse cultures, small businesses, families of extended generations, with hidden gems of California history that often gets overlooked.

This year, the city is starting the planning process for a Public Art Master Plan that will guide the direction and identify for this city when considering investments and opportunities for future public art and cultural arts programming. The planning process will be led by consultants Gail M. Goldman & Associates with Art Builds Community and will consist of interviews, focus groups, surveys, and community engagement activities at local events.
